Overview

In "History of the Caliphs", al-Suyuti says the Franks took Tripoli in Syria in 503 AH after a siege that lasted years. 2

The following year

In the year after, the affliction of the Muslims at the hands of the Franks grew severe, and they were certain that the Franks would take most of Syria. The Muslims asked for a truce, the Franks refused, then made peace with them for many thousands of dinars. The book relates that the Franks broke their word afterwards. 2
