Overview

Al-Suyuti, in "History of the Caliphs", reports that in the days of al-Muttaqi the Green Dome in the City of al-Mansur at Baghdad collapsed. It had been built by al-Mansur, and the sources describe it as the crown of Baghdad and a glory of the Abbasids. 2

Its description

It was eighty cubits high, and beneath it was a vestibule twenty cubits by twenty. On its top was a statue of a horseman with a spear in his hand, and if it faced a direction, it was known that someone from outside would appear from there. 2

Its top fell on a night of rain and thunder. 2
