Overview

Abu Muslim al-Khurasani was killed in 137 AH, according to the index of al-Tabari. 1

The accounts

Al-Suyuti says that al-Mansur took over the caliphate at the start of 137 AH, and that the first thing he did was kill Abu Muslim, the man who had called them to power. 2

Al-Mas'udi says that al-Mansur sent al-Jarir al-Bajali to him, and he came despite the warning of Malik ibn al-Haytham. He used to find in earlier books that he would be killed by the Byzantines. He entered al-Mansur's tent at Rumiyya on the Tigris in Madain, and al-Mansur had ordered Uthman ibn Nahik, the commander of his guard, with a group to stand behind his couch. 3

The index of al-Tabari also records the rising of Abd Allah ibn Ali and his defeat before this. 4
