صاعقة المسجد النبوي سنة 886هـ
c. 1481 CE · 886 AH
In Ramadan 886 a lightning strike burned the Prophet ﷺ's noble Mosque — its roof, stores, book-treasury and lodgings, little of its arches and pillars left standing; some recited over it: 'the Prophet's sanctuary burned for no suspicion feared upon him nor any stain — but the Rawafid's hands touched those traces and fire purified them'. On 17 Muharram of the same year a tremendous quake struck Mecca, the like unheard of 1.

Summary
In Ramadan 886 AH lightning struck the Prophet's Mosque and it burned from its sparks, as Ibn al-Imad relates in Shadharat al-Dhahab. 1
The damage
The roof of the mosque burned, with its storerooms, its book cupboards and its lattice screens, and little was left of its arches and columns. 1
What was said about it
The author quotes two verses composed by someone, in which he says that the fire purified the place of what the hands of the Rafidis had touched. This is the view of the one who composed them, and the source offers no evidence for it. 1
In the same year
The source reports that a tremendous earthquake struck Mecca on the seventeenth of Muharram of that year, the like of which had never been heard. 1
