Overview

Gaddala are one of the branches of the veiled Sanhaja. Their homelands were the southern desert from the lands of the Sudan to the country facing the lands of Meknes and Draa. 1

Ibn Khaldun says that at the beginning of Islam they were, for a time, kings over the Sudan, and that they were the branch of the veiled peoples nearest to the lands of Islam. Among them, and among the Lamtuna and the Jaddala, the first call of the Almoravids was formed at the hands of Abd Allah ibn Yasin and Yahya ibn Ibrahim al-Jaddali. 1
