Overview

Kutama is a branch of the Barbar of the Barnas in the Maghrib, the fiercest of them and the longest-reaching in rule, according to Ibn Khaldun. 2

Their lineage and homelands

The genealogists of the Arabs trace them to Himyar, as Ibn al-Kalbi and al-Tabari report. Their homeland was the countryside of Constantine to the borders of Bejaia and the Aures mountain, and they had the palaces of Kutama in the Maghrib. 2

The call

From them came the Shi'a call by which they took power from the hands of the Aghlabids. 2
