Overview

The Najdat are a sect of the Kharijites that differed from the rest of them, holding that appointing an imam is not obligatory. Al-Mas'udi reports that some of the Mu'tazila agreed with them that when the community is just and has no wrongdoer in it, it has no need of an imam. 2
