Overview

The Sumaniyya are a community whose prophet, Ibn al-Nadim says, was Budasaf. He says that most people beyond the Oxus followed this doctrine before Islam and in ancient times. 2

Name and belief

The name is traced to "Sumani". Ibn al-Nadim describes them as the most generous people on earth and in religions. 2

In his account, their prophet taught them that saying "no" to everything is not lawful for a person to believe or to do, so they refrain from it in word and deed. For them it is the work of the devil, and their doctrine is the repelling of the devil. 2

Not covered here: the history of the community and its beliefs from other sources. A second source is needed.
