Summary

Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Ahmad is the last Afrighid in al-Biruni's works, and Eduard Sachau, following al-Biruni, counts him as the twenty-second king of the house. 1

His end

In 385/995 Ma'mun ibn Muhammad, the Samanid-dependent emir of Jurjaniyya, attacked Kath, captured Abu Abd Allah and had him killed in Jurjaniyya, then took the title Khwarazmshah. 2 Kingship thus passed from Kath to the Ma'munid house. 3

His coins

  • Type 1 is a fals with the profession of God's oneness on the obverse as on earlier coins, a margin reading "In the name of God, this fals was struck at Khwarazm", and on the reverse "Muhammad ibn Ahmad Khwarazmshah" with no marginal legend. A specimen was found at the site of Sadvar in southern Khwarazm in the excavations of 1973–1975. 1 4
  • Types 2 and 3 follow almost the same model. 4
