Overview

Duqaq ibn Tutush ibn Alp Arslan ruled Damascus after his father Tutush was killed in 488 AH. 1

Ruler of Damascus

He was in the citadel of Damascus when his father was killed. The eunuch Sawtakin summoned him to rule, so he set out and reached Damascus before his brother Ridwan could catch him. Bagisyan, lord of Antioch, advised him to act independently of his brother in Damascus, and he did so. 1

He appointed al-Khwarazmi as his vizier and gave him authority over his state. He died in 497 AH (around 1104 CE, a derived conversion, the date following the report). 1

After his death, his atabeg Tughtakin took the rule for himself and proclaimed his brother Tutush as ruler; Tutush was a youth who had just reached adolescence. 1

Ridwan ibn Taj al-Dawla Tutush ibn Alp Arslan; his father had commended him to his men before battle, and when Tutush fell at Rayy in 488 AH the news reached him at Hit — he returned to Aleppo where Janah al-Dawla al-Hasan ibn Aftakin seized the citadel by night, proclaimed him from its pulpits and managed his state well; he besieged Nisibis with al-Albi in 499 and contested kingship with his brother Duqaq at Damascus.
