Overview
Ibn Diraj al-Tufayli, whom al-Mas'udi describes as the most famous of the parasites (tufayliyyun), and one of the most accomplished people in letters and the lightest in spirit. 1
Al-Mas'udi relates that he dressed in the clothes of the boon companions of Ahmad ibn al-Mudabbir and entered his gathering. When he was exposed, Ibn al-Mudabbir challenged him to chess, dice, the lute and the tanbur, and in each of these he beat his companions. He then came to a bow for pellets, and struck the chamberlain with fifty lead pellets, not one of which missed. 1
This is a literary anecdote attributed to al-Mas'udi and needs an additional source.
