Overview

Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Qadim, a companion of al-Farra', who taught al-Mu'tazz before he became caliph. 2

His account

Ibn al-Nadim relates that when al-Mu'tazz became caliph he sent for him. The messenger found him an old man at home. Al-Mu'tazz had borne a grudge against him for his severity in discipline, so he feared the caliph's sudden anger, bade farewell to his family and went out, and did not return to them. This was in 251 AH. 2

His works

Ibn al-Nadim attributes to him al-Kafi fi al-Nahw (The Sufficient on Grammar) and Gharib al-Hadith (Obscure Hadith). 2

For al-Mu'tazz's own entry, see al-Mu'tazz.
