On the grant of land in Basra
Futuh al-Buldan relays a saying of his: "If I were governor of Basra, I would seize their wealth." His reason, as he gave it, was that Umar granted land there to no one except Abu Bakra and Nafi' ibn al-Harith; Uthman granted it only to Imran ibn Husayn; Ibn Amir granted his house, and Uthman's freedman Humran was granted land. Ziyad is said to have granted Imran a parcel. 2
