Overview

Ismail ibn Bulbul, the vizier of al-Muwaffaq. Al-Mas'udi says that he claimed to be of the Banu Shayban, and demanded a land tax for an unspecified year, which weighed heavily on the subjects. 2

His fall

When al-Muwaffaq was dying, the common people plundered his house and the houses of the notables and the secretaries, and the prisons were opened. After al-Muwaffaq died, al-Mu'tadid shackled him and tortured him, and put on his neck an iron collar with an iron pomegranate weighing one hundred and twenty pounds, until he died in Jumada al-Ula 278 AH. He was buried with his shackles and his fetters. 2
