جعفر بن حرب
Ja'far ibn Harb held the sultan's great offices at near-vizierial rank; riding in a grand procession he heard the verse 'Has the time not come for the faithful to humble their hearts', cried 'Yes, O God', wept, dismounted, stripped and hid himself in the Tigris 1.

Ja'far ibn Harb, who held great offices for the sultan, and whose favour came close to that of the vizierate, according to Ibn al-Jawzi. 2
A moment of repentance
Ibn al-Jawzi relates that one day he passed by riding in a great procession, and heard a man reading a verse with humility at the remembrance of God. He cried out "Yes, O God" several times and wept. Then he dismounted, took off his clothes, went into the Tigris and hid himself under the water. 2
