Overview
Jahwar ibn Muhammad ibn Jahwar, Abu al-Hazm, vizier of Córdoba and lord of the Banu Jahwar state. He served as vizier under the Amirid state. When that state died out and strife broke out, he held back from management for a time. Then he returned to govern with the viziers, until he became master of Córdoba while keeping the name of the vizierate. 1
His conduct and policy
He died in Muharram 435 AH at the age of seventy-one, and the affair passed to his son Abu al-Walid. 1 2
Ibn al-Imad relates that he did not take the title of king, and said: "I shall manage the people until someone arises who can set them right." He kept the wealth of the notables as a deposit with himself, turned the common people into soldiers, gave them money to trade with, and obliged them to bear arms and equipment. He attended funerals and visited the sick. 2
Al-Maqqari describes him as a man of letters, dignity and forbearance, whose name became proverbial. 1
