Overview

Jarir ibn Yazid al-Bajali, whom al-Mas'udi describes as the shrewd man of his age. Al-Mansur sent him to Abu Muslim when Abu Muslim resolved to oppose him and set out for Khurasan. 2

The message to Abu Muslim

Jarir told him that he could not be sure it would not be said that he had sought vengeance for a people and then broken their pledge. Abu Muslim wished to turn back, but Malik ibn al-Haytham forbade him. Abu Muslim said that he had been tested with Iblis and had never been tested with the like of this, meaning Jariri. Jarir kept at him until he brought him before al-Mansur. 2
