Overview

Abu al-Hindam, a transmitter of reports on horse races and the ten ranks of horses. 2

The races

He reported that the Arabs used to send their horses out in tens, and named the winners: al-Mujalli, al-Musalli, al-Musalli, al-Tali, al-Mustarih, al-Hazzi, al-Mutif, al-Mu'ammal, al-Latim and al-Sakit. Al-Mas'udi relays his saying that he knew of no one who described them by their ranks except Muhammad ibn Yazid ibn Maslama. 2
