Overview

Qays ibn al-Mulawwah, known as Majnun Bani Amir (the madman of the Banu Amir). Al-Mas'udi relates that Abu al-Hayyaj ibn Sabiq al-Najdi met him in the desert of the Banu Amir. 2

The encounter

He used to flee from him as wild beasts flee, until he grew used to him. Qays ibn Dhurayh recited poetry to him, and he wept and said that he was a better poet than him, and he composed a verse on love for a woman of the Banu Amir. His father and his family were righteous people toward him: food and clothing were placed for him where he could see them. 2
