Overview

Marwan ibn Abi Hafsa, a poet who praised al-Mahdi and Ma'n ibn Za'ida, according to al-Mas'udi. 2

Between Ma'n and al-Mahdi

Al-Mas'udi relates that he took a hundred thousand dirhams from Ma'n ibn Za'ida for a poem in which he described him as the mountain to which Nizar takes refuge. 2

When he asked leave to enter to al-Mahdi, the caliph refused to admit him. Then al-Hasan ibn Qahtaba spoke to him, and he entered and recited his poem; al-Mahdi was pleased with him and rewarded him. 2

The years of his life and his lineage need an additional source.
