Al-Muktafi's son; asked to take the caliphate when al-Muqtadir was killed, he declined — 'my uncle is worthier' — so it went to al-Qahir. Overview

Son of the caliph al-Muktafi. When al-Muqtadir was killed, the caliphate was offered to him, and he said he had no need of it and that his uncle had the better right. He spoke to al-Qahir, who gave his answer. Then Mu'nis, Ibn Muqla and others agreed to depose al-Qahir with him. Al-Qahir outwitted them until he seized them and slaughtered them, and Ibn al-Muktafi was walled up between two walls. 2
