Overview
Abu al-Hasan Muhammad ibn Umm Shayban al-Hashimi, the judge. Al-Muti' appointed him judge in 363 AH after he had been reluctant, and he stipulated certain conditions for himself: that he would not draw a salary from the judgeship, would not be clothed in robes of honour, and would not be interceded with in anything that contradicted the Sharia. 2
A long letter of appointment was written for him, naming him chief judge over all the provinces to which the call reached. 2
