Overview

Musaddad ibn Musarhad wrote to the imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal asking him to write to him the Sunna of the Messenger of God ﷺ, when the matter of the trial over saying that the Qur'an was created and what people disagreed on had become unclear to him. 1

Ahmad's reply

Ahmad, when the letter arrived, said that he wept, and that its bearer claimed he had spent great wealth on knowledge and yet did not find his way to the Sunna of the Messenger of God. 1 Ahmad wrote him a letter counselling him to fear God, to keep to the Sunna and the community, and ordering him not to prefer anything to the Qur'an. 2
