Summary

Wife of al-Harith ibn Khalid; she emigrated to Abyssinia and perished — the book's context differs on where she perished, between the land of Abyssinia and the road. 1

In the Abyssinian emigrants chapter

Ibn Ishaq names her wife of al-Harith ibn Khalid, saying she perished in the land of Abyssinia. 1 Then in the women's list he says she perished on the road, and that her daughters A'isha and Zaynab and their brother Musa all perished of water they drank on the road, and that a daughter she bore there — the only one of her children to remain — was named Fatima. 2 He names her again among "those of them who perished" in the land of Abyssinia, in the mention of Musa ibn al-Harith. 3

Tribe

She belongs, per Ibn Ishaq, to Banu Taym ibn Murra 1

Source notes and markers of doubt

  • The apparent discrepancy between "perished in the land of Abyssinia" (p. 5) and "perished on the road" (p. 11) was not remarked on by Ibn Hisham; it is recorded, not resolved.
  • Her name was printed in the scan once "Rayta" and once "Rita"; the printed reading is "Rayta".
