Overview

Sa'd al-A'sar was a mamluk (freed slave) of Khumarawayh ibn Ahmad ibn Tulun, according to al-Mas'udi 2.

The Battle of al-Tawahin

Al-Mas'udi reports that he stayed behind from his master on the day of the Battle of al-Tawahin in the year 271 AH, after his master's defeat. He then fought Abu al-Abbas ibn al-Muwaffaq, defeated him, plundered his camp, and killed the chief commanders of his army 2.
