Overview

Sadr al-Din al-Khujandi, head of the Shafi'is in Isfahan. Ibn al-Athir reports that after the governor there, he was the leading authority over all its people 2.

Handing over Isfahan

He wrote to the Diwan in Baghdad offering to hand the city over to whichever of the Diwan's forces arrived, because the people of Isfahan disliked the army of the Khwarazm Shah. The army of the Caliph al-Nasir arrived in the year 591 AH, the Khwarazmians left the city, and the Caliph's army took possession of it 2.

591: al-Nasir's troops under Sayf al-Din Tughril entered Isfahan after Sadr al-Din al-Khujandi — ra'is of its Shafi'is and de facto second ruler — offered the city to Baghdad's Diwan; the hated Khwarazmian garrison withdrew to Khurasan with the caliphals taking stragglers — a rare Abbasid territorial gain deep in the Jibal.
