Overview
Salih ibn Madrak, amir of the Tayy. He and his people rose up in the year nine AH and plundered the Iraqi caravan, and, according to al-Suyuti, the property taken from al-Hajjaj was worth a million mithqal 2.
The account of al-Mas'udi
al-Mas'udi reports that Nabhan, Sanbas and others of Tayy fell upon the pilgrims at the plain of al-Ajfar in the year 285 AH. The pilgrims were thrown into confusion, many people died of thirst and killing, and some two million dinars were taken 3.
Notes for researchers
- The two accounts differ in date and in amount. The "nine" year in al-Suyuti corresponds, in the museum's data, to 289 AH, and it needs an additional source to confirm.
