Overview
Tudmir, lord of the district of Tudmir in al-Andalus, after which the district was named. Its capital was Orihuela. al-Maqqari reports that he fought Tariq and sacrificed himself, and that the sword destroyed most of his people 2.
The peace
al-Maqqari reports that he withdrew to Orihuela with a small number of his companions. He ordered the women to let down their hair and to carry reeds on the wall in the guise of fighting men. Then he changed his dress and went down to the Muslims under safe conduct as an envoy 2.
He made peace on behalf of the people of his land, then for himself, and secured them. He then made himself known and held them to the fulfilment of his covenant, and the whole district of Tudmir surrendered by treaty 2.
