عمر بن حفص هزارمرد

عمر بن حفص هزارمرد

c. 767 CE · c. 150 AH† †

† Hijri date derived by computation from the Gregorian/Julian date; it may differ from the transmitted date by a day or two.

In al-Baladhuri: Umar ibn Hafs ibn Uthman ibn Qubaysa ibn Abi Sufra al-Ataki; al-Mansur gave him Ifriqiya after dismissing Muhammad ibn al-Ash'ath — the text there reads 'he appointed Umar ibn Hafs Hazarmard in his place', while elsewhere 'he being the one who captured Hazarmard' — al-Mansur admired him; he entered Ifriqiya, raided to the farthest Berber lands, built al-Abbasiyya, then Abu Khatim al-Ibadi fought him and he was martyred with a group of his household.

In al-Baladhuri: Abu Khatim al-Saddrati — the original reads al-Sudrani, of Sudrana — the Ibadi of Sadrata's people, a mawla of Kinda; he fought Umar ibn Hafs al-Ataki who was martyred and his city al-Abbasiyya demolished, then Yazid ibn Hatim killed him at Batr Iblis.
