Overview

Usama ibn Zayd (may God be pleased with him) al-Tanukhi, in charge of the land tax of Egypt in the time of Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik. He is not the Companion Usama ibn Zayd 1.

Dismissal and return

The book describes him as tyrannical and oppressive, cutting off hands in punishments without the conditions for amputation being met. Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz dismissed him and ordered him imprisoned, one year in Egypt and one year in Palestine. Then Yazid ibn Abd al-Malik restored him to his office after Umar's death 1.

The book also mentions him among the governors whose financial authority was separated from their administrative authority 2.
