Overview
Yahya ibn Ma'in, a traditionist. al-Suyuti reports that al-Ma'mun summoned him in the year 218 AH among the first seven, and tested him on the createdness of the Qur'an. He answered out of dissimulation, and then sent him back to Baghdad. He and others used to say that they had answered out of fear of the sword 2.
His death
Ibn al-Nadim reports that he died in the year 233 AH, and that he has a book, the History, which his companions compiled from him 3. al-Mas'udi reports that he reached seventy-five years, and died in Medina, and it is said in the year 233 AH, which is the more common view.
