al-Shu'aybiyya

الشعيبية

al-Shu'aybiyya at Basra; its Euphrates folk carried it to Ali ibn al-Rashid as his sharecroppers on lightened terms — he made it ushr-sadaqa land and shared them as they accepted, Na'ib ibn Ziyad al-Wasiti managing it.

Overview

al-Shu'aybiyya: a place in Basra. Its people carried water from the Euphrates to Ali, the Commander of the Faithful, in the time of al-Rashid, on condition that they be his cultivators there and that their share of the division be lightened for them. 1

Accordingly the tithe was imposed on them as alms, and they were divided in the way they agreed to. Its affairs were managed by Nu'ayb ibn Ziyad al-Wasiti. 1
