Overview
Ayn al-Mashash: a spring dug by Umm Ja'far Zubayda in the Hijaz. She levelled the road for its water in every dip and rise, on plain and mountain and rough ground, until she brought it out from a distance of twelve miles to Mecca. al-Mas'udi reports that what she spent on it reached one million and seven hundred thousand dinars. 2
