Overview

Ayn al-Qushayra: a spring in al-Bidaydun near Tarsus, from which the river known as al-Bidaydun flows. al-Mas'udi reports that the Byzantines explained its name to al-Ma'mun as "stretch your legs", and that its name in Arabic is al-Raqqa. al-Ma'mun died there in the year 218 AH, and he was carried to Tarsus and buried in it. 2
