Jabal al-Tilmun

جبل الطيلمون

A mountain on the west bank of the Nile, about five miles from Zamakhir. The author says it blocks the river's course and forces its flow through under pressure. The people of Zamakhir say a sorceress once lived in a palace on its summit; the author reports this as their account, not his own. 1

Overview

Mount al-Tilmun is a mountain on the west bank of the Nile, about five miles from Zamakhir. Al-Idrisi says that it blocks the course of the Nile, pressing its flow and driving it forcefully. The people of Zamakhir tell that a sorceress lived in a palace on its top; al-Idrisi reports this from them and does not adopt it. 2
