Overview

Kawkaw is a large, famous city on the bank of a river that flows from the north, according to al-Idrisi. People differ about its site: it is said to be on a gulf, and it is said that the river passes through it for days and then sinks into the sand. Its king is independent, proclaims the sermon for himself, and has many servants and troops. 2
