Overview

Al-Mansura is a city founded by Abu Ya'qub Yusuf al-Marini opposite Tlemcen, during his siege of it. Ibn Khaldun relates that he prostrated at his prayer mat, traced the wall around the city, and ordered the people to build. They built houses and brought in water. 2

He built in it a congregational mosque, a tall minaret, baths, caravanserais and a hospital. Ibn Khaldun describes it as one of the greatest cities of the Maghrib, in the breadth of its plan, the density of its buildings and the brisk trade of its markets. 2

The house of Yaghmurasan destroyed it at his death, when his troops departed, after the Banu Abd al-Wad had come close to ruin. 2
