Overview

Jaffa is a city on the shore of the salt sea, about twenty miles from Ramla, and it has a harbour for ships, according to al-Idrisi. 2

Al-Muqaddasi named it the treasury of Palestine and the port of Ramla. He describes it as small, with a strong fort, its whole sea gate of iron, its congregational mosque overlooking the sea, and its harbour good. 3
