Founding
Ibn Khaldun says that the people of the Sijilmasa lands professed the Safriyya doctrine of the Kharijites. About forty of their men gathered, broke the obedience to the caliphs, and appointed Isa ibn Yazid al-Aswad. They founded the city of Sijilmasa in 140 AH. 1
Consolidation
The emirate passed to Abu al-Qasim Simku and his sons, and their rule grew strong. They built the city wall, its water works and its palaces. 1
The end
Their state lasted until Khazrun ibn Falful, one of the kings of the Maghrawa, marched on it in 366 AH. He killed their emir al-Mu'tazz bi-Allah, and seized his land and his treasure. 1
