Overview

The book by Ubayd ibn Shariya al-Jurhumi on the reports of the past and the branching of genealogies. Al-Mas'udi says it was widely circulated and well known in his time. 2

The verdict of scholars

Al-Mas'udi reports that many people with knowledge of reports judged these accounts to be fabricated, inventions made up by those who sought the favour of kings by narrating them, and that they belong with books translated from Persian, Indian and Greek. This judgement is attributed to them in "Muruj al-Dhahab"; it is not the museum's view. 2
