Overview

A book of history by the hadith scholar Shihab al-Din Abu al-Fadl Ahmad ibn Ali ibn Hajar al-Asqalani. Hajji Khalifa reports that Ibn Hajar gathered in it the events he witnessed from his birth in 773 AH. 2

The method of the book, as Hajji Khalifa describes it

The author gave, year by year, the conditions of states and the deaths of notables, and recorded the transmitters of hadith comprehensively. He drew most of his material from the histories of Ibn al-Furat, Ibn Daqmaq, Ibn Hajji, al-Maqrizi, Taqi al-Fasi, Salah Khalil al-Aqfahsi and Badr al-Ayni, and added what he had seen himself. 2

Ibn Hajar says that, in terms of events, his book would be a fitting continuation of al-Dhahabi's history. 2
