Overview
al-Suyuti reports that in 288 AH Abu Abd Allah al-Shi'i appeared in the Maghrib and called the tribe of Kutama to the Imam al-Mahdi, and they answered him. According to al-Suyuti, this is counted as the first appearance of the Ubaydiyya, who became the rulers of Egypt. The Mahdi here is linked to Ubayd Allah al-Mahdi. 1
