Overview
In 444 AH, records were written in the caliphal diwan in Baghdad that named the ruler of Egypt and his predecessors in terms that cast doubt on the lineage they claimed. 1
What the records said
According to Ibn al-Jawzi, the records denied their connection to the Messenger of God ﷺ, Ali and Fatima. They attributed the family to the Daysaniyya among the Magians and to the Qaddahiyya among the Jews, and said they had left Islam. The seals of the notables, judges, witnesses and scholars were taken on them. 1
He mentions that something similar had happened in the days of al-Qadir. 1
What is not recorded here
This is Ibn al-Jawzi's account alone. The Fatimid account is not added here, nor the view of modern studies on the lineage. It needs an additional source.
