Overview

After the forces of Ibrahim Pasha had ended the Greek revolt, Russia, France and England agreed to force the Ottoman state to grant Greece its independence. When the sultan refused, their fleets sailed to the Greek coasts. 2

The battle

al-Sallabi relates that Ibrahim Pasha replied that he received his orders from the sultan or from his father, and that fighting was halted for twenty days. He then relates that the allied fleets entered the harbour of Navarino without flying their battle flags, and surprised the Ottoman-Egyptian fleet and sank it. 2

After the battle the powers decided to separate Greece from the Ottoman state, on condition that it be ruled by a ruler chosen by the three powers. 2

The source does not date the battle itself. The recorded date is derived and needs an additional source.
