وقعة نهاوند

al-Tabari reports that the Persians gathered at Nahawand under Dhu al-Hajib. Umar wrote to al-Nu'man ibn Muqarrin ordering him to march there. ¹

Ibn Ishaq, al-Waqidi and Abu Ma'shar reported that it was in 21 AH, and Sayf said it was in 18 AH. ¹

al-Mas'udi relates that al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba crossed to the king of the Persians, who seated him in his council, and he jumped up and sat with him on his throne. al-Nu'man ibn Muqarrin shook his banner three times, then prayed to God that he be granted martyrdom in victory and conquest, and he was the first to fall. ²

Ma'qil ibn Yasar found him with a last breath left, asked about the people, and was told that God had given them victory. He said: "Praise be to God; write to Umar with this." al-Mas'udi says that the graves of the slain were still clearly marked in his time, about a farsakh from Nahawand. ²
