فتح صلاح الدين أيلة

In 566 AH Salah al-Din marched from Egypt into the lands of the Franks and raided the districts of Ascalon and Ramla and the suburbs of Gaza, and fought the king of the Franks and defeated him. Then he returned to Egypt and took Ayla in the first ten days of Rabi' al-Akhir. ¹

Ibn al-Athir relates that Salah al-Din had ships made in sections and carried them in pieces on camels until he reached Ayla. He assembled them, launched them in the sea, and besieged the city by land and sea. ¹ He also says that he gave its people and all that was in it over to plunder. ¹
