Damietta

In 615 the Franks took Damietta's chain-tower — 'the lock of Egypt's lands', says Abu Shama, a tall tower mid-Nile with two chains barring the salt sea to ships. The next year they took Damietta itself after sieges — al-Kamil too weak to resist — made its mosque a church, while he founded al-Mansura at the seas' fork and camped his army there {cite:tarikh-khulafa-minhaj-1434 p. 696}.

Amr's Four Lieutenants Carry the Fustat Terms through Egypt

In al-Baladhuri, from a group who witnessed Egypt's conquest: when Amr ibn al-As took al-Fustat he sent Abdallah ibn Hudhafa al-Sahmi to Ayn Shams, who gained its land and compounded its villages on Fustat's terms; sent Kharija ibn Hudhafa al-Adawi to al-Fayyum, al-Ashmunayn, Ikhmim, al-Bashrudat and the Sa'id's villages, who did likewise; sent Umayr ibn Wahb al-Jumahi to Tinnis, Dimyat, Tuna, Damira, Shata, Diqahla, Bana and Busir, who did likewise; and sent Utba ibn Amir al-Juhani — or, some say, his mawla Wardan, lord of Suq Wardan in Egypt — to all lower Egypt's villages, who did likewise; thus was Amr's conquest of Egypt completed and its land made kharaj-land.
