Overview

The Prophet stayed at Wadi Nakhla on his way to Mecca after Ta'if, and a band of the jinn listened to him, without his knowing they were present until God informed him of it through the verses revealed about it. 1 2

The Qur'an on it

The book says that God mentioned this event in the Surah al-Ahqaf and in the Surah al-Jinn. 1 In it the jinn believed and returned warning their people, and the sequence of the reports implies that they came as a delegation again later. 2

The good news

The author sees in the verses a promise of the success of the mission, and that no force of the universe can stand between it and its success. 2 After that the cloud of sorrow and despair cleared, and the Prophet resolved to return to Mecca and resume presenting Islam. 2

Notes for researchers

  • The account of the jinn here is based on what is in the Qur'an, al-Bukhari and Muslim, and the book presents it as a report that does not depend on scholarly verification.
