Overview

Ibn Khaldun relates that in 244 AH the Majus attacked the city of Nekour on the coast of the Far Maghrib with their fleets. They overcame it and plundered it for eight days. 2

The people's resistance

A relief force of Berbers gathered to Sa'id ibn Salih, king of Nekour, of the Banu Salih ibn Mansur, and they advanced against the Majus. Ibn Khaldun says that he broke up their band and killed their leader, and his affairs were set right until he died. 2

The year of Sa'id's death in the source text is given as 188 AH, which does not appear to match the year of the raid, 244 AH. The source needs to be checked.

Nekour

Nekour, an ancient city on the Rif coast of the Far Maghreb between two rivers, one the Nekour rising in the Kaznaya lands; seat of the Banu Salih ibn Mansur kings of Ghumara — the Majus raiders sacked it for eight days in 244 AH, Musa ibn Abi al-Afiya destroyed it in 317, and Ibn Tashfin ruined it again so that it was never re-inhabited.
