Overview

The Ghuzz are Turkmen tribes in Khurasan. Al-Suyuti reports that they rose against Sultan Sanjar in the year 548 AH, took him prisoner and seized his lands. The sermon continued to be given in his name, and only his image remained with them, without meaning. 2

Al-Mas'udi mentions them among the kinds of Turks, in the lands of Gharash, Bastam and Bust on the side of the land of Sistan. He also places them in the lands of Kerman, among the land of al-Qafas, the Baluch and the Jat. 3
